I love to drink as much wine from around the world

I love to drink as much wine from around the world as possible but rarely do I in blind formats. It was a great time sitting down with the @guildsomm crew in Seattle and learning.
It is always so interesting discussing why you think a wine is a certain varietal and it’s origin. I rarely approach wine tasting this way but geek out on their podcasts all the time.
Instead I find myself looking a bit more at how the wine fills the palate, texture, length, and typicity. Then I will assess the quality of the wine to price ratio and give a stab at the origin if for some reason I tasted it blind.
Great learning experience and this will motivate me to try and taste blind more often. 🤘🏼

White winemaking is something I have grown to love

White winemaking is something I have grown to love! There are so many components to it which take a wine from standard to complex and great.
Most influential is always the factors of the vineyard location, crop load, sun exposure, pick timing but there is another side that isn’t talked about as much.
Things like yeast selection, how clean you rack the wine before fermentation, adding acid proteins or water. Then during ferment should you stir the lees, use new oak, do skin contact... The list goes on.
This is our Viognier from 2019 which is produced in more of a Condrieu style which I felt was fitting for the high elevation crisp acidity of Northern Yakima Valley. Some new oak and some neutral oak. Always native yeasts and never water/acid additions. 🙅🏻‍♂️
It is still going through mL and evolving until bottling in the fall. 🤘🏼
If you haven’t tried @wa_state_wine white Rhônes you are in for a treat! The Rhône blend from Konnowac last year is made in similar style with plenty of texture and freshness to pack a long finish.
We will be sharing both our @upsidedownwine Viognier and Roussanne at @washingtonwineblog’s Event in Seattle Feb 15 along with an amazing line up of Washington producers!
